The Ties That Bind Asheville was a participatory public-art project that invited people to tie strips of repurposed fabric onto a riverside fence and related modular forms throughout Asheville.
First selected as an activity for a community gathering in May 2025 that focused on reflection and renewal through symbolic creative acts, the work soon evolved into an independent civic-care installation extending beyond the event itself.
Over 163 days, participants across multiple sites contributed to a collective installation exploring connection, care, and shared belonging.
The public installation concluded on November 7, 2025, and remains under community stewardship, with local residents invited to continue caring for the site, marked by a community-facing sign.
